The Purse: A Functional Accessory

When people think of accessories, they immediately think of bracelets, watches, rings, necklaces or the perfect pairs of earrings. I’m a sucker for some shine here and there. Of course. One thing I realized as I was packing and organizing my closet though, was how we often forget about the importance of the purse.

So many people have forgotten to consider it as an accessory and have kept it in the functional necessity category. I’ve been that person on occasion, when kids need to be driven somewhere, I have a meeting across town and errands are piling up, I just grab the purse I used yesterday, throw in the necessities and run out the door.

Hold it. Stop. Reverse.

After seeing coverage from some of the Spring/Summer 2014 shows I had to re-evaluate. Some of the top handle bags and clutches were amazing. You could tell that they were carefully thought out for the outfit. They either tied everything together or brought out a significant part of the outfits.

It doesn’t take a lot of energy. Once I organized all my purses in categories, I find myself pulling one out the night before or in the morning and being able to get up and get out of the house just as swiftly as when I ran out with the wrong bag.

You can categorize by size, by color, by style or by brand – whatever helps you get through your bags faster. Some purses are awesome because they pull focus away from your otherwise basic outfit.

I can throw on my favorite pair of jeans, a white T and a bomber jacket but have an amazing purse that can grab attention and brighten up or add creativity to your look.

At the end of the day, being stylish is worth it when it adds a bounce to your step, an extra shot of confidence and a boost to your look, why not pair your purse properly. With a well thought out clutch or bag, a little black dress, jeans or the most infamous gown looks that much better.
