Gluten-free Halloween Snacks

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year!  To help you enjoy the most of this spooky time, I’ve shared some of my favourite gluten-free spooky snacks!

Bloody berry smoothie!

Zombies Start Halloween with this naughty ghoulish treat! This recipe serves up to 4 vampires!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of frozen mixed berries
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • Drizzle of strawberry ice cream syrup

Directions

Squirt strawberry syrup around the top of the glass so it trickles down into the glass resembling blood!

Put all the ingredients together in a blender and blend them until smooth.

Pour the smoothie into the glass, place some berries on top and drizzle more strawberry syrup.

Eyeballs on a plate (Deviled eggs with a twist!)

A great Halloween snack or starter! For a real kick, you could add a dash of Tabasco! Makes 12 servings.

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup of low fat mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper
  • Paprika
  • 6 pimiento stuffed olives

Directions

Boil the eggs until hardboiled then remove from the heat.

Place the eggs in a bowl of cold water for a few minutes. Remove the eggs from the water and crack the shells. Slice the boiled eggs lengthwise.

Remove the yolks from each egg half and place the yolks into a mixing bowl.

Mash the egg yolks with a fork. Add mayonnaise, mustard, white vinegar, salt and pepper to the egg yolk mixture then mix it all together. If the mixture isn’t creamy enough, add more low-fat mayonnaise.

Evenly fill the egg halves with the yolk mixture. Sprinkle paprika over the eggs.

Slice the pimento stuffed olives in half and place each half on each egg half to resemble an eye!

Severed zombie fingers

These severed zombie fingers are a real treat for Halloween!

Ingredients

  • 125g of stoned dates
  • 50g of chopped dark chocolate
  • 1 1/2 tbsp smooth peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp porridge oats
  • Flaked toasted almonds

Directions

Put all of the ingredients (but the almonds) into a blender and blend until you have a coarse mixture.

Mould the coarse mixture into fingers. Place a single almond at the end of every finger to create a fingernail. Place these fingers on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

Refrigerate the fingers for an hour so that they harden.

Arrange the fingers so they hang out of a bowl.

Secret tip: If you want to make these fingers extra scary and tasty, smother them in the strawberry syrup used in the smoothie recipe!
